SALVAGE

1989 Taylor TC400L Forklift

This is a Large Industrial Fork Lift that fell off the low boy trailer during transit.  Damage was done to the ROPS Canopy (open cab with glass) and to the left side of the forklift and hydraulic cylinders (had to be re-packed).  Even though this is a 1989 year model machine the ACV was $90,000.00 and the repair cost was $15,125.51 after securing the price of the ROPS canopy from the manufacturer (an after market was not available).

This Hydraulic Excavator was involved in a fire and extensive damage was done to this machine.  After adding for the mechanical thumb on this machine the ACV came to $41,875.00 after considering the history of this machine and after reviewing the maintenance records (secured estimated hours on machine).  The limit of coverage on this machine was $65,000.00 and the salvage sold for $6,757.77.

This Hydraulic Truck Crane overturned during a lift doing extensive damage to the carrier, cab and the hydraulic boom sections.  The estimate scope of damage to this crane for repair consideration was $163,152.44.  The limit of coverage on this machine was $225,000.00 and the ACV was $238,750.00.  The high salvage bid on this machine was $57,287.77 and because of the very good possibility of hidden damage, this machine was considered to be a constructive total loss.

It is very important to have the necessary experience and qualifications to properly identify over the road and off road equipment to be able to properly evaluate the damage and the value of this equipment.

Different components such as the size of the track pads and type of dozer blade on track type equipment, the length of a boom on a hydraulic excavator, a component such as a "Thumb" on an excavator, different type of ROPS and EROPS cabs, different types of attachments on forestry equipment and mobile cranes, all effect the repair cost and values of this equipment.

Having the experience to know when a piece of equipment needs to be re-certified and/or load tested can remove the possible future exposure on some type claims.

Having the necessary resources to properly identify this equipment by the equipment series versus the model number and the year models by identifying the serial number and relating it to the serial number guide book can make a considerable difference in the ACV of this equipment.  Also, we have access to Equipment Watch www.equipmentwatch.com to determine year models by serial numbers, specifications and quick sale and resale values at this facility.  Of course, this is only used as a value guide and we determine the values of this equipment by actually locating very similar equipment for sale on the heavy equipment market.

Our personnel are qualified to determine these proper numbers in order for the customer to make a professional decision as to the possible exposure on a possible claim on any of this equipment.
